“Will work for food…training and facilitation preferred.”

That’s what my sign said. With my best suit on and a tent pitched next to me, I camped outside one of Australia’s fastest growing companies.

This was my version of a cover letter.

My high school teacher gave me his best advice; “Less Indiana Jones and more learning and you’ll go a long way, Mr. Smith.”

I did both. Fast-forward 20 years and the adventure lives on.

Hi, I’m Peter Smith. I help leaders and Teams around the world work smartdo good and live great.

I help trainers, group coaches, and facilitators get the best out of their sessions. So, If you have a skill you can teach to people, or if you have a cause to promote, or a difference to make, I’m here to help—with tools, techniques and tips for unforgettable presentations and training sessions that make a difference in business and in people’s lives.

MY JOURNEY

I spent my 20s and early 30s climbing the corporate ladder; specializing in Human Resources and learning and development.

But I woke up one day and realized I’d spent 10 years climbing the wrong ladder, I’d lost meaning in my work.

Do you know what that feels like? Perhaps you’ve felt the frustration of office politics and life in an organization. Felt like you were a spoke in a wheel, too buckled to steer.

Once I’d taken the leap into the unknown, there was no turning back. In the evenings after work, I spent countless hours studying the best trainers, speakers and coaches. I read up on corporate social responsibility, the “triple bottom line,” eco-entrepreneurism, and the new young world of social media.

It’s a huge risk for anyone to leave behind the office, the car and the expense card. But I left. I arrived in Sydney; my junky old Pajero 4X4 spluttering along the last few miles.

I grabbed the Yellow Pages and spent months cold calling training companies; trying to get my foot in the door. I must have sent thousands of CV’s. I didn’t know where my next paycheck was coming.

I got going with a life and business coach and attended personal development seminars to learn how to get my best game on. I needed to understand how to be a more effective agent of change for organisations

Now, five years after I held up that sign, I get paid to travel the world and do work that makes an impact. I’m not telling you that to impress you, but to impress upon you that there’s more to be done.

If my blog can help one coach, one corporate trainer or one expert get their message to one person, then like the ripple of a pebble across a pond, the change and the learning continues.

THE WORLD HAS CHANGED

People have wised up to how the world works—demanding more accountability to the environment, the less fortunate, and to the community at large.

Most organizations are heeding the message. Some have a lot of work to do.

In the end, we all want our work to matter; with the people responsible for making a difference—leaders and managers committed to making a difference through their work, their teams, their organization and their community.
